A Soldier's Everyday Life Poem by Mary Bolen

A Soldier's Everyday Life

Rating: 5.0

It's not just any normal day, it's nothing like home, ohh so far away
With their lives some have to pay, for freedom of others is why they stay.
Longing for loved ones, and those who care
That's the strength that drives them there.
Commanded to do things, that never seems right
But in order to survive they have to fight.
Friends, family, and wives wonder why
So many forget and don't even cry.
They are surrounded by violence, and fear all night
Just to see who is standing at the morning's light.
While I lay in bed, and lonely tears I shed
Praying to God he's alive and not dead.
Not knowing or hearing his voice for days on end
I go on in a daze, as his mission begins.
The phone rings, I scream, my heart it soars
He's safe, his voice, leaves me wanting more.
His safe return, is what I want in life
That and to FOREVER be his wife.

~Dedicated to Pfc. Coleman Davis~

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The strain of being a soldier's wife must be tremendous. Your poem really lays out the difficulty of waiting, the love for your husband.
