A Soldiers Funeral Poem by norman hale

A Soldiers Funeral

Rating: 5.0

As she walks up to the casket
And kisses her son on his cheek
That's when she falls to the floor
Fainting and folding those trembling knees

Several gather to help her up
Then help her back to her chair
By now so many tears are flowing
And we wander why life isn't fair

For he was still just a kid
Only at the age of twenty four
When he was called to duty
Over on some distant shore

He was her only child born
Yet, paid the price for me and you
In his troop, there was so many
Yet to die, he was of a chosen few

This is the one funeral
This small town can't forget
For one of their own went to war
And came home on a flag covered casket

And the mother will be in tears
Every year from this day on
Just remembering this very day
That she had to bury her son

We really should be more thankfull
For those brave soldiers who pay the cost
For without those acts of bravery
Our country would be at loss

So the next time you meet a soldier
Be proud to shake there hand
Listen to what they need to say
And please try to understand

And think of all the loved ones
Who have lost someone in vain
Or even our great vets, who are
Bedfast, in a wheelchair or, on a cane

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

The pain in this scene is almost too vivid, too real. And it is played out around the world today all too often.
