A Song She Sang Poem by kolawole ogunfowokan

A Song She Sang

Here is a song she sang
Sang to her beloved
'Ade ori mi' she said
The crown to my golden head
'Wa mu mi rele' come take me home'
Come take me home I have waited this long
Waited this long to comfort you
You who honored me in my prime
Who made a queen out of a maiden
You who saw me among many fruits
And plucked me as the favored one
You who refused to eat me up
Who nourished me till I was fit to savor
Come take me home

Running home to you my heart
The one that drums and makes me dance
The key that unleashes the joy to my pains
I had no trouble finding peace
The day I saw you ushered in many
I truly believed in the existence of the maker
He is a perfect match maker
I am made for you and you for me
Patience my crown
Patience
Tonight is the night you become mine
No hurry no worry
You will never have to search for me

I was grown in honor
Raised as a warrior
To be an epitome of dignity and faithfulness
I was nurtured with virtues
Virtues that makes a queen out of a woman
I was groomed to be independent yet interdependent
I was molded to carry my burdens and lend a helping hand
I was told to enjoy life and worry less
I was told a lot to make me appreciate me
I have gone this long loving myself
Loving me so passionately, till you loved me
Your love opened me to love
when you showed me we complement each other
I held on to that very act
Now I will go no further without you
I have loved myself so long
Now I need you to love me.

This is my song to you
The one who holds me now
The one who ringed me now
Whose eyes I behold
Tonight is the night
The night I release all
I am waiting patiently
As I bid my old self good bye
And become one with you
