A Sonnet For Us Poem by Matt Baines

A Sonnet For Us

The picture hung there bright as it could be
What happiness was there during that time?
To know now what it was like to be free
Why sit back and see today as a crime?

Creating greatness today is no more
The future is to adapt to the past
Go forth to honor those who came before
Don’t dishonor their flag that’s on our mast.

Us being restrained was not their meaning
It is on my mast but you do not see
Don’t worry, all glory is not fleeting
To honor them is for us to live free.

I will fly our flag into the unknown
For I live my life and not as a clone.
