A SONNET {OUR CHAMBERS}
The splendorous ocean, the broad, vast sea
Billowing beneath the arch of the sky
Enraptures our souls as we sleep and sigh
Engulfed in a radiant harmony.
The courtyard by the grotto, clad with vines,
Where the white statues made of marble rise
With slender fountains, in a solemn wise,
Serenades the mountains, laden with pines.
The broad whites of the peaks, in somnolent array,
Refresh our gazes, and our hearts which pray
For bliss come the vespertine stars and their plumes.
Now that the rivers descend as rosy blooms
(Brightly beneath our terraces, they glitter in the light.)
We shall embrace in our rooms, in the ecstasy of night.
