A Stray Poem by Robert Melliard

A Stray

A cat up on a neighbour's roof
mews consantly, afraid to jump.
The neighbour, plump and grumpy,
doesn't want to help.
He says the cat can come back down
the same way it went up.

I phoned an animal protection group
two days ago, but nothing's happened yet.
What now? Do we just leave it there to die?

Once more, though on a tiny scale,
I'd like to help, but don't know how.
