A Summer Day Poem by Joe Prieto

A Summer Day

The other day
I thought I heard
In silent ways
a whispered word

It said, 'Follow me'
so I said why not
For the day is young
and the sun is hot

Through the forest
past past pastures
This voice led me
even faster

'You're drawing near'
I heard it say
'Just stand right there,
and right there wait'

I'm at the place
but I feel alone
The voice went away
as I closed my phone

A prank caller at best,
I thought to myself
But here comes a bear!
so I ran yelling 'help! '

'Come here' the bear said
'I've got an appetite'
'You cost me 10 minutes,
and roaming charges applied'

I lost my balance,
fell down to the ground
The bear caught up,
and then looked down

It's almost ended,
I said to myself
I feel suspended
