A Sunday Morning...Sermon....Perhaps Poem by James B. Earley

A Sunday Morning...Sermon....Perhaps

...Pondering....to wit:
Are not Christians hypocrites?
....Pious....yet biased by choice
Ain't no mystery....
When checking-out history
Bigotry's...long been....its voice

...Braggadocious about bravery
Where is the bravery in slavery? ...
Annihilating Indians....viewed...as benign
Thus stealing their land
.....Enslaving Africans
A Christianity..."oblivious"...to crime

Now...from the bottom of the dumps
Claiming "God gave us Trump"
...Demonic rhetoric passionately avowed....
Tried and true scoundrels
....Christianity's Evangelicals
Propagandizing....arm....of the crowd

Innocent child in the manger
Never once knew the danger
...Of religion....as some......"confidence game"
Perhaps pondering to wit:
....Christianity's hypocrites
"Radical evil"...folks would engage...in his name

Author's note:
"What makes it so plausible to assume that hypocrisy is the vice of vices is that integrity can indeed exist under the cover of all other vices except this one. Only crime and the criminal, it is true, confront us with the perplexity of radical evil; but only the hypocrite is really rotten to the core."
