A Suspicious Sound Of Laughter

There's sound of laughter which is heard
coming from some place that's assured.
I look around but cannot see
the source from where it comes to me.

I wait awhile and hear some more
this time it's louder than before.
There are people laughing somewhere
and it seems like they all don't care.

I wonder what they're laughing at
and if it's as funny as that.
Could it be a joke of some kind
that someone has recalled to mind,

And told it there at the right time
with an accompanying rhyme
to increase its impact on those
who the teller of this joke chose?

Or was it some situation
to do with one's sour relation
that happens so often these days
and people tell in many ways?

Whatever it was seemed to be
amusing for them there to see.
But who can really understand
all the issues that are at hand?

That laughter has subsided now
and all is quiet I avow.
Though all of those questions remain
unanswered and cause of disdain.

If the laughter had been for them
not seeing from where it did stem
coming from somewhere there about
I would not want to scream and shout.

But what if I had been then caught
doing something that was so thought
at the time to be amusing
and also as compromising?

Being too self conscious or worse
can take its toll and be a curse
on some people who think they're straight
trying to reach for Heaven's gate.
