A Thousand Evenings Poem by Surya V.n

A Thousand Evenings

From the branch to the compound wall
the squirrel has come to be
What is falling off it knows not at all
Yet he says
Be careful
Since my birth something keeps falling down
Be careful be careful
Then
in the manner of catching a ball coming down
from up above
in the cricket ground
he is standing there
holding his tiny hands aloft
I too stand
in case he misses
to catch it in a leap
and knock this universe out.
