A Tribute: Diego Maradona Poem by Raimi Babatunde

A Tribute: Diego Maradona

One day we'll play football in the sky
It'll have all the world's greats
And you Diego Armando Maradona will be there
With your mesmerizing moves
That which you clipped the Eagles wings in 1994
We have forgiven you, but we'll never forget

How we worshipped your persona
Admired your dexterity and passion for the sport
There can be none, before and after you Diego Maradona
You are the undisputed God of the round leather game
The Brits remember you well
Wembley 87, when you introduced us to "Hand of God"
Now, the Creator has taken His Creation

You were unarguably unplayable
The best player of your generation and maybe ours
All defenders threw at you never worked
Unstoppable like the storm you were
If you shed a tear for love of the game, it's okay
The real G.O.A.T. has crossed to the great divide
What will you be remembered for?

Rest in peace, El Grande! The pride of Argentina
Argentina and Napolitano will never forget you
I shall never forget you too my Hero
You were in the class of Pele, Eusebio, Puskas and Best
But of all, you were a God amongst equals
That's why I inscribed you in a poem, to live forever
Take this challenge, drop a line for my G.O.A.T.
But, wait, what will you be remembered for?
