A Waking Nightmare Poem by Ashlee Norwood

A Waking Nightmare

Rating: 5.0

Pain encircles the perimeter,
No comfort to show defense,
Fall in the arms of my baby sitter,
I haven't been happier since.

Abomination, rage, and sadness,
No one should ever feel,
Only happens in this world of madness,
Someone should notice this big deal.

Floating past birds and swinging on vines,
I know there could be nothing better.
Waking up and hearing my whines,
Going back to sleep would be very clever.

Most people wake up from a nightmare feeling cool relief,
I wake up into a nightmare wishing I was still asleep.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem after reading a quote by Ned Vizzini. I felt such a familiar vibe from reading the quote. In the poem, it describes how i feel awake and how I feel asleep. This was the quote that I was reading:

"I didn't want to wake up. I was having a much better time asleep. And that's really sad. It was almost like a reverse nightmare, like when you wake up from a nightmare you're so relieved. I woke up into a nightmare." -Ned Vizzini
