Inspired by Aunt Mary and Uncle Charlie
We arise in early morn
Darkness all around
The sun has yet to peek its head
Much above the ground
The smell of dampness from the dew
As we begin our walk
A cricket sounds his bedtime call
His goodnight to the dark
The trees are dressed in red and gold
Fall is in the air
The smell of pine sweeps over us
The breeze bestirs our hair
With it comes an owls hoot
His greeting to the dawn
Rustles in the underbrush
Out steps a wobbly fawn
His big eyes open in surprise
He tenses, fear is strong
But mama slips up close to him
And nudges him along
We hear the lapping of the waves
From the nearby lake
A loon calls out his mournful wail
A love song for his mate
The splashing from a jumping fish
A frog croaks from the shore
We wander along, our hands entwined
Hearts beating in rapport
A golden glow through dappled leaves
The sun moves through the sky
Turkeys gobble as they feast
On acorns dropped from high
We walk along a mossy path
Quietly side-by-side
Twigs snap, bushes shake
As a rabbit tries to hide
A vast expanse peeks through the trees
A glimpse of natures splendor
Bright sunlight kisses wild bouquets
With a touch so tender
Rainbow colors emblazon the field
The aroma is divine
Clouds of butterflies take flight
Pulling our spirits behind
Walking through that magical field
Absorbing this Earths charms
We take a deep breath, lace our hands
And stroll home arm in arm
