A White Wall Poem by Mariam de Haan

A White Wall

She sit and stares
At the blank white wall.
Slowly but surely a face appears,
A smile and brown eyes in between two ears.
It gives her a hand and says,
'Come, let me erase your fears.'

So she takes it.
And she's whirled into a world
Where the trees are made of pearls,
Where the waves don't collapse but unfurl,
Where the air is made of laughter.

'Dance, keep your eyes open
We're alone.
We can be together.
Right here. Forever! '
But she lets go.

The trees melt away.
The waves crash the bay.
The air curses the day.
The face forgets forever.

At the blank white wall
She sits and stares.
A darkness lies there,
It's her shadow smirking as it glares.
It slithers towards her and whispers,
'Take back your fear, because I'm still here.'
