A World In Disguise Poem by Clyde Watanabe

A World In Disguise

Rating: 5.0

You just caught a glimpse of reality spoken
softly whispered for years to your ears
Somehow deafened by the calls of your world
a voice now murmurs deep in your heart
What is now just beginning to start?

Something stirring deep inside
makes you want to reach outside
The eyes of that heart have now opened up
to the world that's been hidden or ignored
You sense another world to be explored

You've known about the poor and the needy
Your mind filtered by notions of who they are
have kept you at a distance for so, so long
Now for just one moment reality meets your eyes
and you see a world that's been in disguise

An outpouring of compassion moves you closer
as you reach out your hand to touch
and find hearts so willing to receive
So a new journey in your life has started
and from your old world you have departed

You see their hurts and needs and condition
and feel like a shepherd seeking lost sheep
As you yearn to hear the calls of the lost
what you have found...is God calling to you
through the beloved he has brought into view

Your world and reality have now been changed
as you find yourself feeding God's sheep
Transformed to see with the eyes of Christ Jesus
You realize that you were the one that was in need
now touched by His heart as you take heed

Reaching out to look into the eyes of the poor and the
needy on the streets, I feel a joy that comes from God.
I have discovered the joy only God can bring and am
receiving His love through those I seek to help. Charity
often does not bring us face to face with the reality
of the recipients. When we dare to allow our hearts to
meet, face to face, we are challenged to face a whole
new world.
