A Year After The Tsunamis... Poem by Dr John Celes

A Year After The Tsunamis...

Rating: 4.3

The seas had plunged their monstrous hands
of ghastly death o’er peaceful shores,
and smothered lives of innocent men,
women and children by the scores:
By walls of giant waves so quick
that leapt higher than all palm-trees;
and took with it their possessions;
and left behind a salty land,
unfit for growing crops or grass;
A stench of corpses, carcasses;
Destroyed buildings; huts; tenements;
Inundating miles of coastal
Villages, towns, beaches, groves.
Oh, what a ruthless nature’s act!
Afilled by fear belies the minds
and hearts grief-torn beyond repair;
The few survivors eke a life
of despair, shock, desolation;
A flurry of questions flashes
through minds wounded and horror-struck:
Why did God allow these tragic things?
Why has Nature turned so cruel to man?
Is man to blame in part or whole?
Was it an act of Satan then?
Why hell unleashed upon the earth?
A year has passed off now after
Tsunamis caused death, destruction;
Those horrible moments are etched
indelibly in minds of those
who escaped death by luck/ providence;
Life is turning to normalcy
but the sad memories linger;
The lives of near and dear ones who
were swallowed by the seas forev’r;
The fishermen use boats unhappily;
Fear fills their minds, their eyes by tears;
The sea is littered by mere junk;
The wounds of heart will heal slowly;
The world renews its prayerful pleas
to God to calm the treacherous seas;
Man cannot win the wars against
Mother Nature’s intense furies;
Align must man with her in harmony;
God must be less unkind with rod;
God’s love for man must more prevail;
Man must obey God’s tenets without fail;
May the earthly stay be less cruel;
God, this is our fervent prayer-
Plea for a peaceful life on earth;
O Jesus Lord, Rebuke the waves
and calm the seas on stormy days;
Guide man’s destiny on the earth;
When Satan tries to spread chaos,
What can poor man do all alone?
God’s the answer to man’s travail.
