When I was a young lad
I always listened to my mom and dad,
I wanted to be kind and nice
Daily I heard and obeyed their advice.
I remember when I was with my pals
I wanted to impress the gals,
My friends told me I should grab a cigarette and smoke
But, I refused because it could cause a stroke.
Then they said it's also cool to chew
But, tobacco I never knew
But, proudly and intelligently I did without
Bubble gum was in my mouth.
When I was older they said let's go drinking
I was already thinking,
We went to a bar and they said belly up
They had whiskey, while I had soda in a cup.
One time they told me I should get high
Then I could see and talk to angels in the sky
But, I knew that's not how to speak to them
I knew you could with God, with a praise and a hymn,
I then started going to church
My friends went other places for their search,
And then I got saved at a revival
They now carry guns, while I carry a Bible.
