Above Me, White And Blue Skies. Poem by RIC BASTASA

Above Me, White And Blue Skies.

there is this
moment when i really
have to stand
to give honor to
you

all these years
i have not known what
i really stood for
until this came
about

i've seated for all
other matters
because i feel that
they were not that
important

now see me
i stand for this and
i will continue
standing
as it is worth it

do not reprimand me
do not show your anger
do not say that i am wasted
do not convince me that you
are right and that i am wrong
for i know

what i stand for
what i really love
what i just met as right
and worth dying

there were killings and
there will be more to come
in this kind of hunger game

and these all these shall remind
us once more
that we are not really the same
that we if given the opportunity
may lose what we are
and what we stood for

given the chance at my back
i know you will stab me
but i have anticipate all that
you are

same as i am
given that chance i may kill you
without doubt at all

we know this kind of hunger
this hunger for memories
this thirst for the past violence
that our ancestors take pride
as they paid the price for peace
and progress and stability

i stand for something now
and you do not like it
throw away my poetry
burn the poetry in me that you once liked
but i will still continue to live
and stand for this

ahh, this is my last chance
to redeem what i was once in the forest and the
wilderness

i shall kill and and shall be killed
as heroes once took their swords and lances
i shall hear the whispers of white flowers
beside the blades of grass
above me, white and blue skies.
