Abuser Left Behind Poem by Ray Hansell

Abuser Left Behind

She had been married to him
For three agonizing years
Tired of all the abuse
Long ago she ran out of tears

She knew what she had to do
She had to get away
For her kids and herself
She needed to find a brighter day

Finally she found a way
To leave all the misery behind
Hoping one day down the road
Happiness in life she would find

One day she saw an old boyfriend
Soon they reconnected
It was now she realized
He's the one she should have selected

Too late to think about the past
For the past is dead and gone
Time to look straight ahead
Time to keep moving on

Because all of her bad days
Were left far behind
Now she's happy and content
Living life with a peaceful mind

Her children are all grown
Living out on their own
Knowing their mother is happy
With her new husband and home
