Acceptance - Poem by lolly cotterill

And so they watched
Life ended
Ceased from the normal pattern
Turned inside out
Upside down.
Beyond recognition
To something strange
And unwelcomed.
Somewhere deep inside
Patterns from the old
Fought to vanquish
To conform
To be in control.
Unsuccessful strategies
For banishing
And forbidding
Give way to
Ideologies with fear
And foreboding.
Unknown territory
To tread
Clinging desperately
Not wanting to
Move forwards
Gradually walls crumbled
Grudgingly surrendered
Opposition wavered
