Accusations Poem by Dilip Pattanayak

Accusations

They say:
D' has become rough-tongued, hard-hearted - -
Talking to him is inviting troubles;
A radio once on goes on,
Making everything boring;
He has no humanity left in him - -
A veritable emotionless statue;
A dunce fails to get at the jokes;
A stubborn unbent character,
Never accepts others' words;
An egoistic person
And snobs others;
An ox works very hard
Un-ambitious wretched being;
A dog in the manger,
Trails the track of rules.

D' says:
Look under the stony surface
Of his rough-tongue and hard-heart,
And discover the spring
Of love and compassion;
He will never fail you with
A shower of the spring,
Which they have dried
With their trivial selfishness.

D' asks:
Why do you ask him things unknown
Beyond your understanding,
Which he explains you, so that
Your darkness gets dispelled?

D' admits:
Circumstances have killed his spirit,
Have turned him into a living carcass - -
It's you people who nip him in the bud;
It's you people who strangle his dreams.
What could he be other than a statue?
Still a statue will speak;
Instill in him the life force - -
Your love and understanding.

D' knows:
He is dull-witted,
But he will not entertain in
Your rude jokes on women and others.

D' decides:
He will not abide by your
Wrong approaches and corrupt ways,
By your selfish and sadist actions;
So will he remain stubborn, in your words,
To face every odd for
The victory of the Truth.

D' suggests:
Don't measure him in your own yardstick;
And discard those glasses of yours
Which reflect your own ego and snobbery,
You will see him a plain human being.

D' believes:
He trains himself to work hard
Not for himself, but for others,
Because the Vedas say: Live for others
And the Gita says: Work not for results.

D' declares:
He is a citizen of the world;
Betterment of the mankind is his motto;
Rules allow everyone to live happily,
So he is doing for everyone
To be happy, to be better.
