Dilip Pattanayak Poems

I

The bindu grows
more and more
...

Who am I?
When do I ask this to me
I see I am nobody, nothing,
but Everybody and everything.
...

If only I had the choice
To sing like the great Ruffi
Enchanting the hearts of millions
And getting tons of applause!
...

Nspur.6 Feb 1944.
Born to see your father lost,
You made yourself a man
Under the hem of Maa.
...

Miles and miles lie ahead
being even and odd at places,
having rise and fall on its ways
in the horizon the path mixes.
...

'Welcome, you Bubble, ' asked I,
'Please tell me one thing.
For a moment you come
But what us to bring? '
...

Fights man with each other
for a handful of rice;
strangles others' throat
which is never nice.
...

' Happy New Year 2014, '
was shouting I on the street,
greeting everyone whom I met;
still I had to wish many
...

In summer I saw it
flying in the sky,
jovial enough in vain vaunt.
Inquired about its pride,
...

But life is such
that you wish as much
and never get anything
though you hope for something.
...

Life comes
as thought comes to mind
as tension comes to mind
as pressure comes to life.
...

They say:
D' has become rough-tongued, hard-hearted - -
Talking to him is inviting troubles;
A radio once on goes on,
...

The cowherd boy runs after
a wheel for pleasure,
but a wheel is there
after everything, after everyone
...

Seen there everywhere
the existence of a pendulum;
in shop, in temple, in church,
in school, in bus
...

The Mirror

I

The bindu grows
more and more
with the passage of time
and dissolves into a bindu again.

Time past and time future
merge into time present
the bindu dangles from it
not remarkable, but noticeable
that loses
its length and width
claiming an existence
in the womb of the Void.

II

Man is immortal
Nature is eternal
I find in Man
Nature eternal.

From America to Russia
from Australia to the Great Britain
the bindu is immortal
the bindu is eternal.

The bindu emerges out of
and dissolves into
the void respectively.

There is no change
no change in physique or psyche
no change in manner and behaviour
in wish and desire
in outlook and enmity
in help and sympathy
in love and passion.

Man never changes
Nature never changes
the bindu never changes
history never changes
Time never changes
All is eternal and repetitive.

III

I look at the blackboard.
It is angrily coloured.
Half black, half white
half day, half night
half dove, half kite
half dazzling, half blight
half downward, half upward
half perfect, half weird
all in its right perspective.

I view the blackboard
I view the reflections.

The bindu grows
more and more.

I see the reflections
coming from the dust
making me a laughingstock
with sky-kissing hopes
it consoles me.

IV

Who is she
that tries to alter me
alter my life
alter my mind?

She is a bindu
I am a bindu
we are a bindu
I am a bindu in her.

She fed me; nourished me.
She feeds me; nourishes me.
She will be feeding me; nourishing me.

The Earth, Nature, Mother, Silver Girl
the same I see in them
I see them merging into one
merging into a bindu
merely a bindu.

The Dust in the Earth
or the Earth in the Dust
the Clouds in Water
or Water in the Clouds
I find no difference
only a metamorphosis
from the Earth to Nature
from Nature to Mother
from Mother to silken Girl
from Silken Girl to the Earth.

V

Who am I
a component
a particle of dust
a bindu?

What do I want
a bindu
to merge into a bindu?

Is there a finality?

Unpredictable
Unpredictable it is.

The bindu is merely a bindu
does not have
a beginning
and an ending.

Because
the base is unchangeable
hunger is unchangeable
passion is unchangeable
instinct is unchangeable.

From the beginning
to the end
they are as usual.

Then so what?

Is it the progress or regress
growth of materialism or downfall
spread of spiritualism or disappearance?

Oh! it is the MIRROR
existing always, forever
with the existence of the mankind.

This is the source
the bindu is the source
source of creation and destruction
of reflection and performance

itself centred in the bindu
that is the ULTIMATE
the JYOTIRBINDU
the all-in-all.
