Across The Caribbean Sea Poem by Innantia Magcanya

Across The Caribbean Sea

I never believed another person could feel like home until I met him.

Some people cross your path and become a memory. Others leave fingerprints on your soul, marking places within you that time can never erase. No matter where life leads you, you carry them with you.

That is who he became to me.

The world has kept turning. Seasons have changed. Years have passed. Yet my heart has remained wonderfully, faithfully constant. It still softens when I think of him. It still smiles at the memories we've made. It still finds peace in the conversations we share, even with an ocean between us.

People say distance makes love disappear.

I don't believe they've ever loved with their whole heart.

Distance has taught me something entirely different—that love can travel farther than planes, oceans, or time zones. Somehow, every single day, my heart still finds its way to his.

I've searched for a reason to explain why I love him this deeply, but love like this has never needed an explanation. It simply exists. It lives in the quiet moments, in the joy of hearing from him, in the comfort of knowing he is somewhere beneath the same sky. It lives in hope—a hope I carry as naturally as I breathe.

If I could choose one place in the world, it wouldn't be a country or a city.

It would simply be wherever he is.

I don't long for a perfect love story or a fairy tale. I long for the ordinary moments: waking beside him, laughing until nothing else matters, reaching for his hand without having to count down the days until goodbye, building a life where distance is no longer part of our story.

Sometimes I wonder if he will ever truly understand what he means to me. How one person can become my peace, my joy, and my longing all at once. How someone on the other side of the world can still feel closer to my heart than anyone standing beside me.

Maybe that's what love really is.

Not butterflies that eventually fade, but the quiet certainty that your heart has already chosen where it belongs.

Mine chose him.

And if life is kind to us, perhaps one day there will be no airports, no countdowns, no oceans stretching between us. Perhaps one day, the man I've loved across the miles will simply be the one I come home to.

Until then, I will carry this love with gratitude, because loving him has been one of the most beautiful parts of my life.

Across the Caribbean Sea, my heart has already found its home.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Some feelings are too deep to fit into ordinary conversations. This piece is my attempt to give words to a love that has endured across time and distance. It isn't about perfection or fantasy, but about the quiet, enduring way someone can become part of your heart. Whether life eventually brings us together or keeps us on different shores, this is a tribute to a love that has remained constant—one that continues to inspire hope, gratitude, and the belief that some connections are meant to leave a lasting mark on the soul. Across the Caribbean Sea is simply a reflection of that journey.
