Act 2 Scene 5 Poem by brianna arnott

Act 2 Scene 5

(the LOVER pulls into the LOVED's driveway and runs to teh door. the LOVED answers)

the LOVER: The path of least resistance is so well travelled, and every time I walk it I feel more like I'm stuck in a rut than like I'm going anywhere.

(the LOVED looks confused. the LOVER continues pleasingly)

the LOVER: If i made a promise to never sleep again, will I still fade out? Will it stop me from trading places with the ghost?

(the LOVED begins tearing up)

the LOVER: Lurking in the shadows is such a waste of time because everyone forgets the faces in the crowed, those faces crying out for any chance to be loved.

(the LOVED is crying now)

the LOVER: If I make a promise to stand my ground and make my presence felt, would you remember me, and keep that memory in your heart long after I'm gone? Put your arms around me angel and look me in the eye, make me just one promise, just this and nothing more. That you'll remember never forget me.

(the LOVER begins quoting form T.S. Elliot's 'The hollow men')

the LOVER: This is the way the world ends
this is the way the world ends
this is the way the world ends
not with a bang but a whimper

(the LOVED shaking and sobbing closes the door in the LOVER's face)
