Actions...

The syllables of love evaporate
like morning fog
ahead of the coming day
sunlight shines harsh and bright
on what's left behind
on the thought that created
sunflowers with blond hair
the act that fed
the thirsty grain of the field
the swinging gestures of the machetes
cutting down rows of sugar cane
On the idea that put
a windmill on a hill
or the gesture that hung
a horsehoe above the door for luck
sunlight brings these
to sharp relief
in the distance love birds sing
but don't pay them any attention
the birds tell that lie every spring
