Advice To Young Poets Poem by John Lars Zwerenz

Advice To Young Poets

Advice To Young Poets

Let your verse be of the scarlet breeze,
Regal and redolent, of ecstasies.
Carry your poetic mind
Wherever you venture, whether or not you write.

Never compose for profit nor renown,
It is far more important to be mystic and kind.
And when you receive the sacred insight
Which is a charism to own
Do not reject it out of fright.

For into darkness you must go
To discover God's ineffable light.

Wander where the currents rarely flow.
Make your home in the homeless night!

To awake, to feel, to find, to know!
