Afflicted Poem by Paul Adolphus

Afflicted

In my time of troubles I cry out to the heavens
My eyes are heavy with tears
My soul is afflicted with sorrows
I have strayed from the path of righteousness
And taken seat with the ungodly and rebellious
Your words were sweeter than honey on my lips
But my tongue became corrupted and uttered vile things
I weep bitterly within for the guilt i carry overwhelms me
Look at where I stand now
My efforts have yielded nothing
My labors have come up empty
I am a wretched man
During the season of my prosperity
I neglected to call on the name of the Lord
but it was all meaningless for I sowed my seeds
In the soil of ungodliness and the fruits thereof
Only poisoned my mind then they were no more
All is sour now and who can sweeten my bitter days?
I will call unto the Lord for he is merciful and forgiving
I will seek to dwell in his presence.
