Afraid, But Never Alone Poem by Leopold Gunther

Afraid, But Never Alone

Walking in the night you pace back and forth
you look to the sky for answers, for meaning
yet you find yourself denying safety, forgetting truth
the smirk that shines from your face
is as vein as the words that fall from your mouth
again you look upward
the moons mocking cheshire smile casts its haunting grimace
corrupting its vibrance even more
walking in the night, you contemplate
Where to be found, where to look
no air to breath for you're choked, depraved lungs
no land to stand on for you're withered tattered feet
no friend to comfort and heal your broken heart
walking through the night
you feel the cold chill of the absence of day
awaiting for hope, your heart is scarred
your yearn for a savior out weighs your mind's doubt
suddenly you look to the east
you see the sun shining its irrevokable light
you feel its rays penetrate your soul
and you feel its beams purify you
the sand on the beach is now in view
you look for the set of two footprints
but you only see one
you pulse with anger, asking why
and then you suddenly remember you were never alone.
