African American Heritage Month Poem by THEODORE CARLTON III

African American Heritage Month

Black is just another color,
Like white, yellow, or any other.
It amazes me how we still treat, disrespect, and discriminate against one another.
its 2011 we have far more to worry about than race,
Like this war we’re fighting, the recession, and making this world a better place.
We’ve come a long way but we must look this issue in the face.
if we can’t change it now we'll never get better as people,
Some of our key leaders don’t even look at us all as equal.
they may look you in the eyes when they speak, but don’t let it deceive you.
African American heritage month isn’t to gain sympathy from anyone,
It’s to educate everyone of our history and how far we have come.
To show our young people where we are where we’re going and where we've come from.
so when you see someone of another race,
Don’t turn your head and look away.
Shake a hand, say hello, who knows you might just make somebody's day.
we have to get out of our little groups, stop sitting with the bunch,
Grab someone of a different race and take them out to lunch.
let’s stop segregating ourselves ' ITS NOT ONLY AFRICAN BUT AMERICAN HERITAGE MONTH '
