After The Iron Giants Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

After The Iron Giants

The smoke clears slow above the plain,
Where shadows washed away the stain.
The iron giants rest at last,
As present days forgive the past.

A single bird begins to sing,
A fragile, sudden, silver thing.
It perches where the banners fell,
A quiet toll of freedom's bell.

The soil is torn, the rivers deep,
Guard secrets that the fallen keep.
But green will push through broken stone,
To claim the land back for its own.

The treaty signed, the borders clear,
But healing takes a longer year.
The earth breathes out, the sky turns blue,
And everything begins anew.
