Afternoon Doze Poem by Jan Oskar Hansen

Afternoon Doze

I´m looking at a blinking icon on a white screen
I have spent an hour in a state of bliss and
not feeling the need to do anything other then
to enjoy the calm. Afar I hear a cement mixer
rumble let it resound it only makes my peace
deeper but I´m aware of a dog´s bark outside
the front door it is soft bark wants me to open
the door and give it a slice of ham or a cuddle.
I do that, and the dog walks away….happy.
There was a time when I thought I had to be
active all the time not allowing calm, thinking
It was laziness. A white screen but I could not
resist filling it with words to remind me of how
good silence can be and how easily it can be
disturbed by a ringing phone snapping my mind
back to the mundane.
