Agama Poem by Tony Cemaluk

Agama

Agile agama met playing children,
Innocent, both in innocent pursuit.

Children caught lizard,
Tied him — a handy, live toy.

Man of age came from nowhere,
Swirled and struck his head hard on the ground.

Children watched the new dimension of the game.
Lizard was stunned,
Did not survive.

Children wept for their lost friend,
Their playmate.

Man of age grinned and continued to nowhere.

Cold-blooded lizard wept unto the Maker:
'Visit not the children, my playmates, my friends,
But man of age,
For he knew his intent.'
