Aging Grace Poem by Bella Magik

Aging Grace

If you're not in a hurry, please sit and talk with me awhile
it would be nice to have someone to share a simple smile
for so long I've been counting shadows just to pass the time
as days become the thief who steals away this life of mine

Weathered pages I have turned until they start to tear
and moments fade within my mind like they were never there
photographs hold love like treasure on a timeless face
but all that I have left now are the hands of aging grace

all the steps that I have taken have been washed away
and lately years have been the reason those I love can't stay
it seems like only yesterday that I drew my first breath
as everyday I wake to face the curtain of my death

the best of me is hidden by this coat of older skin
and all that I have left to hold is buried from within
some days I will sit and search the etchings of my face
reaching for the girl I was with hands of aging grace

I can feel your energy and restlessness of youth
and if I share nothing else, I will share this truth
every minute lost is your own life and you will find
that rush to reach your future means you leave too much behind

Linger in your days before tomorrows are the past
hold onto the good times that are never meant to last
choose to love with wisdom and stand certain in your place
for one day all your left with are the hands of aging grace

Forgiveness is the key that will unlock all of your pain
love, your precious gift that's free to give time and again
you will shine through darkness with the light of your own star
as long as you embrace the heart and soul of who you are

regret is only worn by those who carelessly forsake
the chance to learn and never change the choices that they make
as you run through life b kind to others as you race
for we all need someone to hold the hand of aging grace

as you stand to leave you'll see the sadness in my eyes
for the joy of new is shaded by the hollow of goodbyes
but every touch and every tale that colours us as true
paints the picture of all that has become a part of you

Thank you for the sands of time you chose to share with me
Thank you for the chance to smile again with dignity
years from now remember that the lines upon your face
are the lines that leave your story in the hands of aging grace
