Alex Hickey Poem by Francis Duggan

Alex Hickey

Alex Hickey won't be seen again in the border Town of Rathmore
Or walking on the Millstreet road where he often walked before
In life he was a gentleman and his friends more than a few
In saying he was a decent human being I'm not saying anything that's new.

He never harmed anyone he would help you if he could
He was such a decent human being in him there was much good
Not into self promotion and one free of conceit
He was as nice a person as one could wish to meet.

One who was liked by many about him he had a nice way
And reading of his passing brought sadness to my day
He will be missed in Rathmore, Barraduff, Millstreet Gneeveguilla and Knocknagree
And he was well known in Cullen and known in Boherbue.

I hope his end was peaceful that from life he had a painless release
Amongst the deceased of Rathmore Parish he forever is at peace
Sad to think he'll never more be seen on the roadway to Millstreet
Alex Hickey was a good man as good as one could wish to meet.
