Alleyway Poem by Matt Render

Alleyway

In this alleyway
They'll never find me
With my teeth gleaming
A cold grin in the dark
And all the bottles of gin
That I stole
With the body of the pharmacist
Whom I killed
Leaving puddles of blood
Unrinsed upon the hardwood
They'll never hear the sounds
Of my racing heart
Beating in time
And fighting against the night
They'll never know
The comfort of
These cloaking shadows
As I dance around
Squelching at the walls
Licking up the moisture
And awaiting the departure
Of bodies into the daylight
As I hold onto the door knob
With all the life I have
Barricading myself
In this suffocating closet
Suckling the seeds of immortality
And glowering for eternity
Like a flower in its dying moments
Fading so brilliantly.
