Almost Gone... Poem by Leonard Champlin

Almost Gone...

For years the past has haunted me
where did she go?
did she really look for me
I do not know.

She said that she was always here
I could not see
her face outside my window
it just could not be.

Her hand reached out to me and yet
I could not touch
both hands outstretched to hold me
out of her clutch.

I feared I let her slip away
the end was near
and like a flowing wispy ghost
she'd disappear.

But she returned, she told me so
I did not trust
she truly said I must believe
she said I must.

So I'll hold on forever
and just not let go
to have that piece of heaven
that I've come to know.
