Almost Silent Poem by Violet Carson

Almost Silent

The darkness of the night

Surrounds the mind
Ensnares the senses
The silence humbles
And breaks all fences

A screaming voice
Raised up in panic
A fear so real
They just can’t stand it

A young soul cries
So lost and alone
Hating the dark
She yearns for dawn

Why can’t she see it?
Why can’t she know?
The world is alive
When the sun sinks low

Her life is spent
In the brightness of the sun
She’ll never see what life can be
Once the day is done

But this shall not be my fate
I will not bear her scares
I will run forever now
Beneath the silence of the stars.
