Consumed Poem by Violet Carson

Consumed

In the darkness a voice cries out
It calls for its salvation
No one hears her plea for help
No one stops her soul’s mutilation

She cries alone, bearing
The burden of a secret pain
She feels her blood begin to flow
As her life begins to wane

No one knows she’s dying inside
No one senses her sorrow
No one looked into her lie
For soon there will be no tomorrow

It’s in her eyes
That’s where you see it
As it eats her up inside
Oh, how she longs to release it!

But how can she tell of her secret?
How does she reveal her darkest fear?
How could a stranger understand,
Her agony when he is near?

She loses herself, bit by bit
Her pieces scatter far and wide
Will she overcome the pain in her soul,
And escape her living lie?
