Along Life's Way Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Along Life's Way

With all the charm that he could muster
and the fastest car money could buy;
with a gift for 'her' of antique lustre,
suave was he, to please her mind.

In clothes of classic style and colour,
and shoes, the fashion of the day,
he drove for miles to meet his 'blind date'
rehearsing words that he might say.

His journey was from York to Folkestone
where they would meet beyond the town;
on the Leas ~ along the clifftops
next to the bandstand of renown.

Yes! She was there. His heart stood still.
his head roared like the mighty sea ~
this strange romance where would it lead?
Was he not master of his destiny?

She was dressed in red, and beautiful
a beauty queen, without the crown.
It was love at first sight, plain and simple;
scared him ~ made his head spin round.

The gift he kept until the moonshine
the ring he hid till another day,
and in his sanest moments he wondered
what would happen 'along life's way'.
