Along the Way
Once came a day
When I saw you there my heart it flew away
You swept me off my feet, I knew
That you were here to stay
Strolls on the sands
Watched the sun sink in the ocean hand-in-hand
We kissed and held each other tight
While making all our plans
Summer days and winter nights we spent together
Loneliness was on the run
In endless hours of bliss and hope and tears and laughter
It seemed our life had just begun
Lost in your eyes
I was flying and I didn’t question why
As time stood still the only thing
That mattered, you and I
Little things began to turn into distraction
Lovin’ arms they turned astray
Thought I could pass it off as misconstrued reaction
But somethin’ happened ‘long the way
Then came a day
When I saw our love begin to slip away
At first I covered up my eyes
To hide myself from pain
Passed through dismay
Having come to know that life goes on its way
Leavin’ the past where it belongs
I’ve nothin’ left to say
My heart’s survived the loss, the pain’s
Subsided I’ll be on my way
