Always Been Poem by Randy McClave

Always Been

As I walked in trouble and in despair
As I wondered why God wasn't there,
Then as I thought of what I had been through
I then heard a voice saying, "I Was There For You! ".
God was always there for me
When I walked troubled and in pain by the sea,
Then in prayer I asked where are you Lord
I thought to myself why am I being ignored.
I then felt a warm calming breeze
Which put my soul and my thoughts at ease,
Then I felt a sadness and shame as I shedded a tear
The voice then said, "I Have Always Been Here! ".
I first saw 2 sets of footprints were in the sand
As if walking hand in hand,
The Lord then said, "I was at your side and I never left"
"Even when you suffered and felt bereft".
Then when there was 1 set of footprints on the beach
Those are the times the Lord said that to you I did teach,
Also those were the times when you I borne
When you felt loneliness and grief and scorn.
Then the Lord said, "That Long Grove Over There"
That is when I answered a soulful prayer,
When you felt used and hurt and even guile
That is when I dragged you for a while.
The voice then said, "I Have Always Been At Your Side"
But, from me those many times you did hide,
And when you were depressed and in tears while talking
I was always beside you, listening and holding and walking.
