Amma- A Word Which Means Life Poem by Sariga Devasia

Amma- A Word Which Means Life

When I was born, and was a stranger to the world,
I was given a name by my Amma.
When I started to speak, but didn't know what to say first,
I started by calling out Amma.
When I got hurt, and didn't know how to define my pain,
I cried aloud by saying Amma.
When I joined school, the only person I want by my side,
was my Amma.
When I grew up and couldn't cope up with my growth,
I ran with tears to hug my Amma.
When I slipped in the pit of mistake, with a sweet scold,
pulled up from there, by my Amma.
When joy butters my success, a kiss on the forehead with a smile,
was the only gift by my Amma.
When she handed me to the one, with whom I have to lead my life,
live your life happily was the only sentence said by my Amma.
When I put my legs into her shoes, entrusted a new responsibility,
I was helped by my Amma.
Even when I am tired of being 'momma',
courage to face life in new way was given by my Amma.
And I know when I will breathe my last, though had learned trillions of words,
at that time also I have only one word to say AMMA..
