An African Thunderstorm Poem by Ama Alma Okigbo

An African Thunderstorm

This is the town with an African Thunderstorm
This is the day of terror and pain
To remember the time of sinful nights that passed by
That would never wash away only with regret and misery
The night of terror where all would be lost

When the clock strikes 12, they will suffer again
When people would bend and fall to the ground and scream in pain and agony
When the fire would fall rain everything
When families would be separated only for one night a night of sorrow and pain

This is the time the ground becomes hot
This soil we stand on would become lava
That river we drink from would turn to hot boiled water
This is the town of truthful lies
This was the day when the god cursed the town because of their wrongdoings
This is the saying forgive and forget
This is when you can forgive but never forget
