An After Thought Poem by Shannon Wade

An After Thought

There was a time, when joy and laughter danced in our house
When peace cradled us closely
There was a time
When you gazed at me with hope and admiration
When you listen to me intently
Encourage by the light that pour from my spirit
There was a time
When you embraced me in your arms
Sealing the meaning of love and kindness
There was a time when I didn't have to wonder if your love for me was merely based on circumstances or chance
I never questioned if you could see the message I had been attempting to eagerly send you
A message simply consisting of "hello, can you see me? Can you see all I'm doing? Can you see that I appreciate you? I thank you for your choice to keep me? To not allow me to fall into the system? Why are your hurting me? Cant you see me?
But it's like you never did....
The less you saw the harder I tried
Then one morning I decided...this simply can't be right
I had to accept that forever reason that image I once had of you died
Not because I didn't try
This doesn't make the pain subside
I have to find comfort in the arms of God knowing this another one of the many things I cannot control
For if it were in my control
I capture moments from long ago
When love was evident and clear
Not foggy and dank
Not corroded by agendas and judgments
How soon do we forget
