An Apology Poem by E R

An Apology

Was I who killed you that night
Was I the reason your heart died
The one who snapped the string holding your
soul together
The power I hold over you poisons my heart
All I wanted was you to feel alive
My selfishness and jealousy corrupted me
Nothing can heal the pain I feel for you
Or the guilt that overwhelms me
My words can't express how my heart aches with apologetics

Was I who killed you that night
Was I the reason your eyes closed
Was I who caused your humanity to collapse
The one who broke your heart
If anything happened to my whole world I'm afraid I won't emerge from the fire
But I am my own enemy
And your my whole world
I burnt down your buildings
I polluted your waters
And In turn destroyed myself

Was I who killed you that night
Yes I was
Your heart was in my hands
I grabbed my knife and scarred it
Nothing could re assure me or convince me otherwise
I was who killed you that night
I am so sorry
I can't save us

Was I who killed you
My mind lays awake every night
Recalling the message I never read
The calls I received
The tears that flooded my eyes
I thought I killed you
But you stand here before me
Reminding me of my sins
I look into your eyes and see my burning world
But if I could
I would stare into your eyes forever
I am so sorry
I can't save us
