An Apology (An Attempt At) Poem by Aimee Kiefer

An Apology (An Attempt At)

Rating: 5.0

I hope that you're alright.

I hope that you've quit smoking,
and managed to slow your drinking.
I hope your heart is full,
and that you never go hungry or lonely.

I'd like to believe that you're alright.

I'd like to to think that you've stopped crying,
and that you are finally happy again.
I'd like to think you understand why I left.
I'd like to think you have forgiven me.

I still can't quit drinking
and now I smoke more than ever.
My heart has stayed empty
and I went hungry three days last week.
You know I never cry anyway,
but my wounds are still aching.
I always knew I'd be sorry,
and I still can't forgive myself.
But I always wanted better for you.

I still hope that you're alright.

Deep feeling expressed with a wonderful command of the language. Very heartfelt with strong emotions. A well texted and nicely thought out poem. Thanks for sharing Aimee.
