An Autumn Prayer Poem by DM W

An Autumn Prayer

O great spirit of Being,
Revisit our hearts.
You who suddenly bring
Forth rain in a dry season.
Give us sweet innocence:
For the reinstatement
Of beauty, vulnerability
And gentle dreaming among
The brutal headlines of history.
Give us poetry
Filled with grace & wonder.
To monitor silence
To mend broken words.
Give us a little light:
To counter the ugliness of night;
To pick out the wrinkles in
The face of meaning, and to catch
The sideways glance of truth.
