An Elegy: Death Of A Penguin Poem by Karen Jane

An Elegy: Death Of A Penguin

My senses vanish, My hands tremble,
As I utter a heart rendering ‘tale';
A Tale from the regions frozen round the year (I)

Half the year enjoys ‘sunrise'
The other half engulfed in bloody ‘night'
Where emotional, pathetic moments linger (II)

A Penguin, struggled hard to escape
From the clutches of a ‘sea lion'- monster.
And freed Himself (III)

Vultures ready to attack Him:
To tear His flesh and feed
But dared not one to proceed (IV)

Body besmeared with blood
He marched on and on with hefty steps:
His companions left Him in lurch (V)

He sagged down on ice
To breathe His last breath
A tiny drop of water ran down His forehead (VI)

A sigh surged up in my heart
A shiver ran down my spine
And my eyes were soaked in tears- ‘He' lay dead (VII)

No one to help Him
No one to heal His wound
No one but He alone lying motionless and silent forever and ever (VIII)
