An Irish Dinosauer Poem by Michael Pruchnicki

An Irish Dinosauer

'Viva Obama! The rest is history! Down with the Republic! '

Mick applauded as he reached for his Guinness.
We waited for Mick's comment on Obama,
the heroic figure of our benighted time.

'I am dead serious, lads. Read the people's opinions
in the local papers. Listen to his praises being broadcast!
Scratch your head as men blaspheme from the pulpit,
calling on the almighty to damn this America of evil!
Psychobabble reigns supreme as oaths are denied
and excused away with oily words from weasels!
Mark my words, we'll rue the day we elect Obama! '

Silence greeted the words of our Irish dinosauer
as we sat and stared into the mirror behind the bar.
