An Island Poem by Donald Seyerle

An Island

Farther away than I can be,
Stands an island.
Showing egress to the river,
On to the sea.

An island of trees and rocks,
Less traveled than not;
Its tabled rocks salute passing freighters.

With winds through its trees;
With a shoreline barely discernible to me;
This island shows the channel
For river and sea.

A beacon unto itself.
A little closer to me.
